Document Requirements
The following documents are required to drive using Hopp in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA):

Note: Please take coloured photos of your original documents; photocopied and scanned documents are not accepted.
PTC Training Certificate
All drivers who wish to drive in Toronto and Mississauga must complete an approved third-party training program ↗ and provide a photo of their certificate of completion.
Driver's Licence
Important guidelines for your Driver's Licence:
- Must not be expired
- Must be 25+ years old
- Ontario G Driver's Licence or equivalent (G1 or G2 is not allowed)
- Minimum of 3 years of Canadian driving experience
Note: If you are uploading an interim licence, please include a government-issued photo ID (e.g. passport) in the same photo to verify your identity
Profile Photo
Your profile photo helps people recognize you. Please ensure to:
- Upload a clear picture of yourself
- Remove any hats, caps, sunglasses or hoodies (exceptions: eyeglasses or religious headwear)
Proof of Work Eligibility
Accepted documents include Canadian passports, birth certificates, citizenship cards, residency cards, work permits, Indian status cards, and Canadian Forces cards. More information can be found here!
Ontario Vehicle Registration
Your vehicle registration slip is the green perforated document issued by the province that proves your ownership of the vehicle.
Important guidelines for your Vehicle Registration:
- Make sure your vehicle's make, model, year, licence plate, VIN, and expiration are clear and visible
- The Vehicle portion (left side) and Plate portion (right side) must be visible
Vehicle Inspection (Safety Standards Certificate)
Your vehicle must pass an inspection by a licensed garage to make sure it is in working order. After the inspection, submit the Safety Standards Certificate (SSC).
Note:
- New drivers using Hopp must upload a SSC within 36 days of passing the inspection if they wish to obtain a PTC licence
- Existing drivers using Hopp must complete a vehicle inspection annually and upload an SSC within 36 days of passing the inspection
Ontario Vehicle Insurance
- The name, VIN, insurance company, and expiration date must be clear and visible.
- If you are a secondary driver on the insurance policy and your name is not listed on your pink slip, include a photo of the full policy document (Certificate of Insurance) with your name listed as an insured driver.
Banking & Tax Details
We need your payment and tax details for driver payouts.
Banking:
- Institution Number
- This is the 3-digit institution (or bank) number associated with your bank
- Transit Number
- This is the 5-digit transit (or branch) number associated with your banking centre
- Bank Account Number
- This is the 7 to 12-digit number associated with your individual account
Tax:
- Social Insurance Number
- GST/HST number
Other Requirements
Background Screening:
- New and existing drivers must pass a background screening every calendar year which includes a criminal background check, driver abstract, and identity verification
- Invitations to complete background screenings via our partner, Certn, will be automatically shared with drivers to complete as required
Vehicle Requirements:
- Vehicle models must be 7 years old or newer to drive using Hopp in Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, and Oakville (10 years or newer in other GTA municipalities)
- Vehicle must have 4 doors which operate independently
- Vehicle must have a minimum of 5 seatbelts
- Vehicle must have a minimum of 5 to a maximum of 8 seats
- Vehicle must be in good condition (must not be salvaged or rebuilt) with no cosmetic damage and no commercial branding
Snow Tires
- All-weather tires must be installed for drivers using Hopp from December 1st until April 30th the following year for any drivers who are accepting rides in Mississauga and Toronto
Municipal Inspections
Municipal by-law officers may request rides at any time to conduct vehicle and document inspections.
Be sure to keep the following documents in your vehicle when driving:
- PTC driver's licence for when you are driving in Toronto
- City of Markham Operating Licence for when you are driving in Markham
- Driver's licence
- Vehicle registration
- Safety Standards Certificate
- Proof of insurance
- This includes your personal insurance and Hopp's insurance policy
