Learn how to check, update, or register your GST/HST number to ensure uninterrupted access to the Hopp driver platform.

Updating your GST/HST Number

As required by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), all rideshare drivers must have a valid GST/HST account number on file. To ensure uninterrupted access to the Hopp platform, please ensure your updated GST/HST number is on file.

To check your GST/HST number on file with Hopp:

  1. Open the menu on the app (3 horizontal lines on the top left)
  2. Navigate to the Driver Portal
  3. Under your Profile scroll to your Billing Information and Invoice Issuer Information
  4. Your GST/HST number will be listed under VAT no.

How to Update Your GST/HST Number

  1. Open the Help section in your Hopp driver app
  2. Select "Send us a message"
  3. Tap on "Continue chat"
  4. Send your correct GST/HST number as a message
  5. You can use the following format as a template for your message:

Hi there,

I need to update my correct GST/HST number. Please update it with the following:

[Your 9-digit GST/HST number] [2 letter identifier] [4 digit reference number]

Example format: 123456789 RT 0001

  1. After submitting the message, please check your 'Billing Information' and 'Invoice Issuer Information' sections within 3 business days after sending the message to confirm your GST/HST details have been updated correctly.

Registering for a GST/HST Number – Step-by-Step:

Don't have a GST/HST number? No stress — registering is quick and easy! It only takes a few minutes online, and you'll get your GST/HST number instantly.

  1. Go to the CRA website and click Register Now to begin.
  2. Confirm your personal information and make sure the details match what you submitted in your most recent personal tax return.
  3. If you don’t already have a business number, select I need a business number. When prompted, choose Business – Sole Proprietorship as your business type.
  4. Under the Add owner section, enter your information. You should be the business owner as the rideshare driver. The legal name should be the same as the owner's name entered.
  5. For business activity, input Ridesharing service. You can leave any additional fields blank.
  6. After confirming your details, you'll receive a 9-digit Business Number (BN).
  7. Enter your Social Insurance Number (SIN), then proceed to register for your GST/HST account by selecting Register an RT account under CRA accounts.
  8. When asked about the type of business, select Operate a taxi or limousine service.
  9. For the question about Sole activity subject to the GST/HST is from commercial rental income’, choose NO.
  10. Provide your actual or estimated annual taxable sales in Canada and worldwide. If you're unsure, you can keep it as zero. Then, enter the date you start providing ridesharing services as the account effective date.
  11. Choose a reporting period for your GST/HST filings.
  12. Once you've received your GST/HST number, update your Hopp profile by sending us a message from the help section of your driver app!
